Games that hold sway over boys
Amongst many ingenious addas, one on the premises of the city's premier art institute Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA) is unique in many ways.
"We gather here at least an hour a day, chit chat, discuss our problems and plan new things," chorus the youngsters. What makes it special is the games they get to play which include swing and chungi.
Their swing is made of a rope tied to a tall tree opposite the entrance of the CAVA building.

It is under that shady tree the students hang out post college hours. And doing so since the time they joined the institute, they've all developed a special liking for their adda, the boys say. Say Anil Kumar, Anil Chandra and Shylesh B R, "We are a big group of guys who hangout at the spot at least for an hour daily. And we love our adda most for the fruitful things that we get to do while here." And Deepak Nandeesh and Puneeth chip in, "Though we often discuss art while at the spot, being here has also helped us make new friends, solve our issues through discussions, learn about job prospects and more. And once we come here, people start joining the group and slowly we turn out to become a big group of friends," assert Naveen and Kiran.
"For pastime, we play jhula and also a game called chungi that's mostly played in places like West Bengal and Nepal," explain Anil Chandra and Mohan, "All we do in the game is form a circle and pass a rubber made loop to each other through legs, without letting it fall on the ground. Though a lethargic one, it's fun to play and makes a perfect game to kill time, displaying the way the sport is played."
